Sergeant Sampson Ekikere
Nigerian Mobile Police Officer
Citation
Sergeant Sampson Ekikere is an officer of the law whose action showed that there are officers in the Nigerian Police Force (Mobile Police), who can be trusted. Sergeant Sampson had found a wallet in a public transport bus in Lagos Nigeria, and rather than keep it, he took it upon himself to find the owner and return the wallet with all its contents intact.
The lost wallet was reported to contain some cash, a driver’s license, and an ATM card. The owner had lost it while alighting from the bus. Using the information on the driver’s license, he tried to put a call through to the owner which did not go through. He then resorted to going to the owner’s bank and with the help of customer service, was able to locate the person and return the lost wallet.
When the owner offered him some reward for his kind action, he declined stating clearly that he was serving his nation Nigeria.
